Maintenance Safety --Lock Out & Tag Out
Maintenance is a very common production activity. In actual maintenance activities, many things are not in normal condition, so accidents are most likely to occur. The common types of injuries include
Mechanical damage
To slip, fall, or fall
Get an electric shock
Chemical injury
Fire accident

The fourth item, Lockout/Tagout, is particularly important, and we focus on:
In order to better understand the safety precautions during maintenance, we introduce a new noun LOTO. Loto is an abbreviation of Lock Out and Tag Out, which translates as Lockout/Tagout. Loto is a procedure designed to prevent accidental release of energy during repair or maintenance.
Before performing a maintenance operation, the maintenance unit should discuss with the site unit the maintenance arrangements, such as which areas may be affected, who will be involved, how the maintenance plan will be arranged, what operations will be required from the site, etc.

Key points:
1. Types of energy involved;
2. Affected areas and processes;
3. Location of the locked isolation device;
4. Repair and maintenance time,
The brief introduction of energy is as follows:
Electricity - Power electricity (DC or AC)& static electricity
Mechanical -- moving & rotating
Hydraulicefficiency motor
Pneumatic -- compressed air
Gravity - water & heavy objects
Chemical - flammable & acidic & alkaline & toxic
Thermal energy -- steam & hot oil & electric/steam heat

Step 2: Execute Lockout/Tagout
Attendants attach locks to energy control devices, such as electrical switches or pipe valves, and add a Lockout tag to the locks to indicate that the repair is in progress.
Key points:
1. Each member participating in the repair and maintenance must attach his own lock to prevent it from being started by mistake.
2. The Lockout Tag is only used as a warning, but it does not shut off the energy as a lock.
