Toolbox meetings -- Lockout Tagout.
The Lockout Tagout standard covers repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment and their associated activities.
Hazardous energy comes in many different forms and types: hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, thermal, radioactive, electrical or chemical.
Every energy can be in one of two states: active or stored.
For example, in pneumatic or compressed air systems, where there may be high pressure gas in the tank, the motor switch must be turned off. Also, lock the hangout for the switch.
At this point, open the valve on the tank to release the air in the tank, and if the air pressure is likely to build up, the valve Lockout tagout.
Employees must be aware of the type and status of energy in the workplace and ensure Lockout Tagout controls each type of energy.
