They use padlocks and tags to secure the machine's main disconnect switch and hydraulic pump, and blocks to secure rotating parts. After ensuring that all lock-out and tag-out equipment is properly secured, technicians begin maintenance work. They lubricate the moving parts of the machine, clean any debris, replace any worn parts and perform other maintenance tasks. After the maintenance work is complete, the technician removes all lock-out and tag-out devices and restarts the machine. They also test the machine to make sure it is working properly and there are no loose parts.
