Lockout Tagout (LOTO) is a safety procedure used in industry to prevent the accidental release of energy during maintenance, repair or repair of equipment. ISOLATE, LOCKOUT, TAGOUT PERFORMANCE STANDARDS are specific steps and procedures that must be followed to safely isolate and lock down hazardous equipment or areas. A lockout/tagout case may involve the use of the LOTO procedure to prevent injury or accidents in specific events. For example, a lockout/tagout case might involve workers locking out and tagging out power to large machines in a manufacturing plant to prevent accidental activation while repairs or maintenance are being performed. Isolation LOTO enforcement criteria may vary depending on the type of equipment or the area being locked down. In general, the quarantine LOTO procedure involves several steps, such as: 1. Identify the device or area to lock. 2. Notify all relevant personnel that the equipment or area is locked. 3. Isolate the equipment or area from its energy source. 4. Verify that the isolation is in effect and that the device or area is not de-energized. 5. Lock down the equipment or area using the designated locking device. 6. Attach a label to the locking device to indicate that the equipment or area is locked. 7. Ensure that equipment or areas cannot be operated or restarted until lockouts and tags are removed. Following the Isolation LOTO Implementation Standard helps prevent serious injury or accidents that can occur when hazardous equipment or areas are not properly isolated and locked out during maintenance, repair, or repair.
