LOTO procedures or standard operating procedures
Operator/manager participation
Guidance provided by the manufacturer
The employee responsible for shutting down the equipment shall perform or assist in the shutdown
Step 3: Isolate the power source of the device
Disconnect equipment from all external hazardous energy sources
Find all the energy isolators listed in the LOTO program
Adjust these devices to stop the energy flow of the device
PPE may be required
Common energy isolation techniques: close the valve and open the circuit breaker
All operational controllers must be turned off or returned to neutral by authorized personnel. Energy isolators must be used to prevent others from unintentionally opening valves, triggering switches, or performing other operations on equipment/systems.
Energy isolation requires that switches, valves and other controls be in separate or closed positions.
